Well, here I am in Santa Monica. Or Sawtelle. Or Westdale. I don’t know where I am.
All I know is that I have a new psychiatrist, whom I picked because he seemed nice and because I thought his office was close to me. But he’s on Olympic, which runs east/west through the city from downtown to Santa Monica, and it took me over an hour to get here by Uber. So long story short: It wasn’t close to me.
But I’m here and I’m early (9:04 am for a 9:30 appointment), because I got an email last night saying the doctor wouldn’t see me if I was late. So I gave myself ample time to arrive to be safe. (But I’ll probably still be late anyway, because in true ADHD fashion, I’ll realize I have to go to the bathroom at like 9:28, and then I won’t be able to find it, and then I eventually will, and then I’ll rush back to his office and show up late with wet hands, and he’ll want to shake them because we’ve never met, and I’ll say, “Sorry, I just washed my hands,” and it’ll be awkward.)
You know what? I’m going to find the bathroom now so that doesn’t happen. BRB.
I’m back! It’s 9:16 am and I’m on the floor of the doctor’s office looking for the bathroom. I found it!
Oh no, it’s locked and I need a key to get inside. I’m going to go into the office now; maybe they have one.
Okay, I’m in the office and it’s 9:20 am. The girl at the front desk told the doctor I’m here already, so I can’t use the bathroom now and I have to hold it. Her name is Hannah and she’s very nice. She has a chocolate lab and proudly displays a photo of him on her desk, which she turns out so everyone can see. Hannah is my kind of people.
I had one Zoom appointment with this doctor a few months ago, but this is my first in-person so it’s important that I make a good impression. With that said, I’ve chosen to wear my “Burn it all” t-shirt today, so maybe I didn’t think this through.
In my defense, I got it when I was feeling hopeless about the future, but 🎉WOW🎉 has that changed! Did you watch that DNC dance party roll call? As they went through each state, a DJ played a song by an artist from each one, and it was awesome. But I’m sure you know this. Everyone knows this.
And Georgia sure knows how to party! Who would’ve thought I’d become a Lil Jon stan?! Between this and his recent Super Bowl appearance, “Turn Down for What” has become one of my favorite songs. It really gets me going!
