Hello, everyone! Since dishing out free advice on Friday, Jen and I have really been through it. Jen got COVID on Saturday, and I experienced the hurriquake on Sunday.
The good news is that we’re both fine. It's Jen’s first bout with COVID, and thankfully, it doesn’t seem to be hitting her too hard. As of this morning, she said she feels okay, but she’s lost some sense of taste and smell. Mostly she’s just salty that she can’t go to the pool.
As for Hurricane Hillary, on Saturday I biked around Santa Monica with friends without a care in the world. We soaked up the sun, shared laughs, and had lunch right on the beach. It was a beautiful day and I wasn’t convinced she’d show up at all.
That night I did some LA-style hurricane prep in case things got bad, meaning I got one bag of ice, two bottles of sparkling water, and 1,500 ml of wine at Gelson’s.
When I got home, I took the hummingbird feeder inside, secured some plants, and anchored our freshly-planted bougainvillea to the ground with my neighbor so it wouldn’t fly away. After that, I kicked back and laughed at some memes.
On Sunday, the rain started around 7:30 AM and came down pretty hard at times, but there was no wind at all. (The Santa Anas are more powerful.) Honestly, the worst thing that happened was that Mary wouldn’t poop outside. (But don’t worry, because she did later in the hallway!)
Then around 2:40 PM, the earthquake hit…
