I’m officially an old person.
One of my “In for 2024” goals is to read three books a month. Jen laughs that I have to make reading a goal, but I have ADHD and have to set aside time to do so.
Last night I realized it’s mid-March and I hadn’t started any of my three books for the month, so I settled into the sofa after dinner and cracked open the third Finlay Donovan book, Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun.
Around 8 pm, I went to get up to get some water when BAM! My lower back started spasming, sending me straight back down to the couch. This happened to me once before about a year ago, and it took me weeks to recover.
So there I was, lying on the sofa, unable to move and not sure what to do. Sensing my panic, Mary crawled out from underneath a blanket to see what the hell was going on, and just started barking at me. The noise didn’t make it worse at all, really. 🥴

After getting it out, I finally managed to stand up, but then realized I left the heating pad on the floor. Determined to avoid another bout of agony, I tried to pick it up with my toes instead of bending down again, which was easier said than done. But then I thought of that lady who eats with her feet and told myself, You can do this, Karyn, you can do this. So I looped the cord around my big toe and dragged it to the bedroom.
