Karyn here — I can’t believe July is over! Is it just me, or did it fly by? Time moves so quickly these days. Remember when you were little and summers lasted forever?! I wish we could go back and do it all again. But we can’t, and we’re all going to die sooner than later, and OMG I’m sorry for getting dark. Let’s just get into it, shall we?
What We’re Reading
Jen: I’m currently reading Elin Hilderbrand’s Swan Song, which she says is her last Nantucket summer-based book. I always love the Greek Chorus of her work, when she writes chapters about how “we” (meaning the whole island) believe this or that.
Now, I know that there’s some clever work here and she’s giving guest appearances to all the characters I’ve read about each summer because it’s their… swan song. What she may not realize is that I read hundreds of books each year, so I do not recall the specifics of one character from seven years/seven hundred other books ago. This is the same issue I have with the Marvel universe. I want to consume something one-off; I don’t want to have to do a dissertation or a family tree to figure out who’s who. Still, enjoying it.
I also read Jeneva Rose’s The Perfect Marriage this month. I bought her book because I think her Instagram is so clever, and she did not disappoint. She also just got a second bulldog puppy and her first bulldog Winston (which is the PERFECT name) is a little sus about the whole situation. It’s very cute and I think she should be our friend. (Please feel free to pass along that info if you know her.)
