Marching Toward the Void
The Monthly Roundup
Spring is supposed to be a time of renewal. Fresh starts, longer days, and the feeling that anything is possible and the world is right at our fingertips!
And yet, here we are, watching everything quietly fall apart while we refresh our feeds and pretend it’s fine.
But in the spirit of seasonal optimism, here’s what we did this month to maintain our sanity.
WHAT WE’RE READING
Karyn: In preparation for writing the romance novel with Jen, I downloaded a bunch of popular books. First up is Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez and Beach Read by Emily Henry—two books everyone seems to love. I’m curious to see where they land on the spectrum when it comes to LOVE MAKING. (I will say, I’m half way through Say You’ll Remember Me, and tone-wise it seems like what we used to call “chick lit.” Are romance novels today really just rebranded chick lit? Because the chick lit label seems to have disappeared.)
Jen: I’ve been reading THE BEST stuff! I finally read Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier. I say finally because TWENTY YEARS AGO my friend Linnea insisted I read it because it was so great. I haven’t seen or heard from Linnea since I left my temp job at the company who employed her, so I can’t tell her how right she was. That’s why I’m just putting it out to the universe. I hope this gives her a nice tingle down her spine right now. I went from that to The Favorites by Layne Fargo. If you’re still high on Olympic fever, this is the book for you. I absolutely inhaled this one.
