A couple of months ago when Mary got her teeth cleaned, I took her to the vet for some blood work and met a woman in the reception area with the cutest old-man dog. His name was Bagel, and she found him at the Erewhon grocery store in Silver Lake. Someone had abandoned him, tied him up to a pole with a bowl of water and a bag of food, and this woman too…
