Hello, everyone — we have some exciting news for you. One of our good friends, Allison Winn Scotch, has a new book coming out tomorrow — TAKE TWO, BIRDIE MAXWELL!
We initially planned on doing a written interview with Allison about it, but at the last minute, we decided to a Zoom and record it. So now we have not one but TWO videos for you. That’s right, two — because we didn’t just chat for 30 minutes, we talked for an hour and a half!
Before we get to the video, let’s talk about Birdie Maxwell. According to Allison, Take Two, Birdie Maxwell is a second-chance romance about an A-list Hollywood star — America’s sweetheart, Birdie Maxwell. After an on-set feud goes viral, Birdie gets canceled and returns home, where she finds an anonymous love letter from an old boyfriend. She isn’t sure who sent it, so she recreates a real-life rom com to find out and win back the public’s adoration.
Booklist says the book is perfect for fans of Schitt’s Creek and Notting Hill, and Library Journal says it will satisfy fans of classic rom-coms like Notting Hill and You’ve Got Mail. So if those movies and TV shows are up your alley, pre-order your copy today!
Now, on to our video chat. Here are some highlights and quotes from Part One:
“Welcome to the podcast where perimenopausal women try to remember what they did 20 years ago.” — Allison
How we each met Allison (14 years ago for Jen and over 20 years ago for Karyn!)
How supportive female writers are to one another, and how the publishing world has changed since we all started writing
Allison tells us about her new book — and how SHE ONCE GOT AN ANONYMOUS LOVE LETTER FROM SOMEONE IN COLLEGE! (She swears it was NOT the inspiration for this book.)
Where does Allison see herself in five years? And where do we? (SPOILER: Jen’s five-year plan might involve becoming the next Miss Cleo!)
Why we love Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce so much (“If they break up, I’m gonna need some help.” — Jen) AND HOW IT BRINGS US BACK TO BIRDIE MAXWELL!
Where is Kate Middleton?! (Yes, we touched on this because KARYN DEMANDS ANSWERS. “She hasn’t even waved out the window!” — Karyn)
“Nothing makes me happier than a conspiracy theory.” — Jen
Why it’s so hard to work out to 1960’s music (Yes, this is an important topic!)
