I watched Oppenheimer a couple of days ago, and my number one takeaway is, “Why are men so reckless?”
[This contains spoilers, obviously.]
Oppenheimer is a scientist who gets recruited by army general Matt Damon to make an atomic bomb. He gets a bunch of other reckless scientists together (all men, obvs), and they go to New Mexico to work on it. After successfully making this bomb, Matt Damon says, “Is there anything that can go wrong if we detonate this thing?” And Oppenheimer is like, “Well, yeah — there’s a small chance it could set the atmosphere on fire and destroy the earth, but no bigs.” And Matt Damon’s like, “I really wish that wasn’t a possibility, but let’s do it anyway.”
LET’S DO IT ANYWAY.
The whole world could catch on fire, but let’s do it anyway.
